Fitness myths debunked: what you really need to know

There is SO much information out on the internet and while staying informed is key to achieving your fitness goals, it can be hard to know what's true and what's not, not to mention, very overwhelming! I’m here to help! Let's debunk some common fitness myths so you can focus on what really works and how to genuinely feel great from the inside out:

Myth 1: "Cardio Is the Only Way to Lose Weight"

Truth: Cardio is great for burning calories, but strength training builds muscle, which increases your metabolism and helps you burn more calories even at rest. A balanced routine is best, which is what we do at GloGirl :)

Myth 2: "You Can Target Fat Loss in Specific Areas"

Truth: Spot reduction is a myth. Fat loss occurs throughout the body. Focus on overall fitness and a healthy diet for the best results.

Myth 3: "More Exercise Is Always Better"

Truth: Quality over quantity. Consistency over intensity (which is why I love our 30min workouts!). Overtraining can lead to burnout and injuries. Ensure you have rest days to allow your body to recover and build strength.

Myth 4: "If You’re Not Sweating, You’re Not Working Hard Enough"

Truth: Sweat is not an indicator of workout effectiveness. It's your body's way of cooling down. Focus on your effort and the quality of your movements instead.

Myth 5: "You Have to Spend Hours in the Gym to See Results"

Truth: Effective workouts can be short and still produce great results. Intentional and focused 30-minute sessions are very effective and can ultimately lead to consistency and balanced living.

Myth 6: "Eating Less Is the Best Way to Lose Weight"

Truth: Under-eating can slow down your metabolism and lead to nutrient deficiencies. Aim for a balanced diet that supports your activity level and overall health. Whole foods!

Myth 7: "You Should Avoid Carbs to Get Fit"

Truth: Carbohydrates are an important energy source, especially for active individuals. Focus on healthy carbs like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

Conclusion

Understanding these myths can help you make better decisions on your fitness journey. Focus on balanced routines, listen to your body, and maintain a healthy diet for the best results.
