Here I am, going on 2 weeks of feeling unhealthy, tired, not myself and obviously, very ANNOYED about it all – though, I chose to truck through it. We’re all guilty of this some time or another, right?!
I started to feel this sickness coming along, all signs of the flu (smh), continued to go on about my days – going to work, exercising regularly, get togethers, a cocktail here and there – and then BOOM, I could barely get out of bed one day. Da fk Angelynn, what have you done?!
Up until 3 days ago, I hadn’t given up usual busy body routine. I legit had a fear of slowing down? “What will I do then? I’m bored just thinking about it. I can’t not exercise – you kiddin me!?”
Welp, let me tell ya, when you don’t listen to your body and continue to keep on the go, eventually it’ll hit ya like a ton of bricks. I sure paid for that mistake. Being stupid and stubborn elongated the healing time.
Although I tend to learn the hard way (lol), I always try to see a positive in the end. As I sit here and write this blog post, something clicked. Since forcing myself to slow down, not exercise, chill the F out and not stress about it – it’s day 3 and I’m starting to feel a bit more alive, I’ve noticed my creative juices are LITERALLY FLOWING. I have all the tabs open on my computer, so many blogs drafted and I’m blowing up my poor moms phone with my ideas lol. Prior to this point, I was struggling with my creativity side. It’s like I had to get to this point of feeling defeated, physically and mentally exhausted, to realize the importance of REST. Was I doing too much and putting a little bit too much pressure on myself to always be on the go? Quite possibly. It appears it was a time in need to rest my mind and body and ultimately hit the reset button.
MY SUGGESTION TO YOU: LISTEN TO YOUR BODY & MIND RIGHT AWAY, DON’T PUSH IT, REST, HYDRATE AND TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF FIRST AND FOREMOST OR NOTHING WILL WORK! When you feel your best, you’ll do your best.
Here are some tips to avoid sickness this (flu) season:
1. Wash Your Paws & Surrounding Area Frequently
Kill germs by using soap and water and an alcohol based sanitizer. Keep you hands away from your face and far away from your mouth and nose. Wipe down your working and frequently used areas and most definitely your cellphone.
2. Get Enough Sleep!
7-9 hours is recommended in order to stimulate an immune response from our ‘natural killer cells,’ which attack viruses.
When you are sick with the flu, you lose fluids. Flush those toxins. Avoid sugary drinks – stick with water, lemon water, ginger tea, green tea, Hibiscus and rose hip tea and this DYI tea – lemon & honey: Drinking tea and breathing in steam stimulates the cilia—the hair follicles in the nose—to move out germs more efficiently. Lemon thins mucus, and honey is antibacterial.
Because stressed causes sickness.
4. Keep active.
Research has shown that adults who workout five days a week take 40 to 50% less sick days than those who only workout once a week. Wipe all equipment before using it.
.. Which brings me to my next subject. Should you exercise while you’re sick? If you have flu symptoms, a fever, a frequent cough, a stomach bug, you should probably skip the gym routine until you’re back up and running. Read more here.
*** Some of us (like myself prior to asking the doctor) think that sitting in a sauna or a hot room is good to get sweat out/rid the sickness, but it’s actually worse. Our body is already dehydrated from the sickness and a sauna of course makes us even more dehydrated. Stay out of sauna, steam room, hot yoga etc.
HEALTH & Happiness,
