Another year has passed. It’s nuts how fast time flies as you get older, anybody else feel the same?
As I sit here and look back on 2017, it was a rollercoaster of a year. I mean, most years are, but 2017 stands out for me. My year started out so great and content and not long ago I started to feel change. I no longer felt fulfilment at my full-time job, I was sad more often than not to be so far away from my family and I finally realized and felt myself in the drivers seat of my own life – what I wanted and wished for was dependant on me to go after. In saying that, there were a lot of ups in my year of course like starting my blog, collaborating with companies including: Under Armour, Sport Chek and Vital Proteins (pinch me!), but there were some downs too – relationship fall outs, situations I put myself in that I regretted and in the end really forced me to snap out of it and grow up. In a nutshell, 2017 was absolutely a year of change and growth. All that aside, here is what I learned in 2017:
Think before you speak – I have been practicing this A LOT lately. Be mindful of what you’re saying, you truly attract the vibes you’re giving out, just remember that. Health isn’t just about what you’re eating, it’s about what you’re thinking and saying too.
Talk positively – On the topic of speaking.. judging, complaining, talking down on yourself or anyone else, it adds up. It’s exhausting and takes a toll on your thoughts and overall outlook on life. Try for a day to refrain from talking any negativity regarding yourself or others. Also, you don’t know everything about people, so don’t judge them—help them. Who wants to be around someone that complains and talks shitty anyways?
Everything will work out – TRUST. I’ve spent hours probably days, worrying myself sick. I look back now and think to myself, what a waste of energy that was. The worst thing we can do is believe it’s not going to work out. Yes, life may get ugly at times but if you trust that everything will work out as it should, you will be surprised with the results. And don’t forget.. Sometimes the wrong choices bring us to the right places.
Stop comparing – Comparing yourself to others really kills your self esteem. We spend more time creeping on what others are doing and it can really affect our self-worth. A lot of what we see on social media is not real life! Not to mention the time wasted. The time you just spent creeping a friends, sisters, boyfriends, cousin, you could of been doing something useful and positive for yourself.
Self care is important – There is no way around it. You can’t perform as great when you don’t feel yourself. Rest, eat well, get your eyebrows done, do whatever makes you feel good. The best project we will ever work on is ourselves.
Take action – If not now, when? You are in control of where you want to go. Don’t just sit there, do something.
Exercising is important and can cure – Take care of your body. A healthy, strong body is where you can start to build everything else. Not only that… Bad mood? depressed? stressed? I guarantee if you fit a sweat session in, you will leave feeling 10x better than before. Try it.
Don’t blame people – For what reason? Don’t blame others and don’t be angry. Don’t blame yourself either, we are only human. Take situations as a learning opportunity and move on.
Never look back too long – Reflecting on the past is only good for one thing: learning. Don’t beat yourself up on past mistakes or decisions. Wherever you are right now in life is where you are supposed to be.
Struggle is good. After a tough struggle, you find yourself stronger, wiser and better than before. Have that “bring it on” mentality!
Spend time with people you love – This is family and best friends. People that have your back no matter what and believe in you. No shit talking when you leave a room (what an awful feeling). Remove yourself from those toxic relationships, they say you become who you hang out with so be careful. Do what’s best for you and don’t worry about what others think.
2018, arms are wide open and ready for you! Let’s make it the best year yet. Wishing you all a very Happy New Year, full of health, wealth and happiness <3
