YYC STUDIO REVIEW: JUNCTION 9

YYC STUDIO REVIEW: JUNCTION 9 YOGA & PILATES

Oh my goodness, the next time I feel home sick, I’m headed straight to Junction 9 because this space is SO cozy, welcoming and cute! I fell in love.

What to expect: When you walk into Junction 9, you truly feel a sense of community. Your experience starts the second you walk in. From the warm welcome by staff to the cozy atmosphere, the energy is positive and pure. There is a cafe on the main level that includes a full service coffee bar, serving Phil and Sebastian coffee, tea, cold fresh pressed juice, and draft Kombucha – and your free to kick back and enjoy it at the large community table! There is a also a retail section that sells various health and wellness brands. The check-in, change room and private studio are on the main level and the Reformer Pilates and Yoga studios are upstairs.

“Junction 9 represents inclusion, community and fellowship – bringing together Yoga and Pilates, wellness and fitness, personal achievement and communal celebration.”

There are 10 different Yoga classes offered. Classes are non-sequenced, meaning every class will be different. Yoga is great for your mind body and soul and with the variety of classes Junction 9 offers, you will constantly be challenged in all areas. It’s suggested to do yoga 2-3 times a week.

Level 1 and 2 Reformer Pilates classes offered. The reformer class was outside of my norm and it was one of my favourite classes. I did the Principle’s (intro) class first followed by Level 1 right after. You are guided through a 50 minute total body workout with a combination of strengthening, toning and stretching, all of which are on the Reformer machine. It was challenging but safe on my muscles and forced me to pay attention to my body alignment – this was a huge takeaway for everyday life (posture, engaging of the core and overall awareness of your body). The Reformer is easier on the body decreasing the chance of injury.

Conclusion: Aside from the schedule variety at Junction 9, I raved a lot about the atmosphere because to me, that matters. How good does it feel to have a place you look forward to going to? The way Junction 9 utilizes their space and offers more than just yoga and pilates – it definitely stands out in my eye. It’s the perfect “Saturday’s are for the girls” activity – meet for a class in the a.m followed by a Kombucha and healthy bite to eat, all under one roof! Especially with fall and winter fast approaching, cozy Junction 9 is somewhere I want to be. As if I haven’t already sold you… there’s more. Many workshops and events take place at Junction 9 and rooftop yoga in the summer! A must check out!
