THIS TIME NEXT YEAR…
I will be:
- Travelling in a different country
- Getting out of my comfort zone
- Meeting new people
- Getting real-life education
- Increasing my knowledge and widening my perspective
- Creating memories
- Relaxing, having fun and exploring
- Disconnecting with real life
- Appreciating what the world has to offer
How good does that sound? I got excited just typing it out, now let’s make it happen.
WHY: Traveling makes you a happier person. Getting away from home and stepping outside of your usual routine is beneficial for both mind and body. The long-lasting personal benefits of visiting a foreign country far outweigh the costs and time to get there and the new outfit you just bought.
I absolutely love the feeling when I am traveling BUT when I’m not (most of the year), I like to buy and try new things which eats up a lot of my precious mula – anybody else in the same boat?
So here I am, day dreaming about being on a tropical island and scrolling through social media, seeing others traveling thinking “you could be doing that if you’d just get your shit together, Angelynn”. YEAH THAT’S RIGHT. It’s time to crack down and get my priorities inline if I want to cross things off my bucket list. I am ready to go on a trip for me, non-work related, on my own dime and schedule.
THE NEW ME: Personally, it’s a bit of a struggle to fully cut out buying new stuff (if I’m being honest and realistic) but if I don’t love it and it’s out of my budget, I’m not going to get it. Compromise: Giving the clothes I don’t want anymore to consignment and ONLY using that money to buy new clothes.
HOW: Instead of forking out $2000 all at once for that dream vaca, I am going to prepare with this Travel Savings Plan.
CONCLUSION: I want to see the world. The only way I can do that is if I crack down on expenses and save my money. Some of you may think this number isn’t enough but it sure will help when the time comes. Get a bonus? Put half away. Have an Aeroplan or travel credit card? Save your points and use them for your flights. We can do it.
One year from now, you’ll wish you started today. Let’s collect memories, not things. Your experiences really are part of you. We are the sum total of our experiences.
See you on the other side of the world!
PS: My thoughts are Greece, Costa Rica, Nicaragua or Australia. Suggestions? Thoughts? What’s on your bucket list?
Health & Happiness,
